Staff Reporter, Dhaka : Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan has applauded the role of sportsmen, including golfers, to brand the country’s image across the world.
“We have performed well in sports, such as cricket, football, golf, and so on. The athletes of Bangladesh proudly bring the flag of the country to different parts of the world. It is truly a matter of pride to us,” Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said while addressing a function at Kurmitola Golf Club in the capital on Sunday.
Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of ABG Bashundhara Cup Golf Tournament.
The Bashundhara Group chairman in his speech also recalled the martyred freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War with deep admiration.
“Firstly, I recalled the contribution of martyred freedom fighters who sketched the victory fifty-two years ago with their supreme sacrifice. The victory (of the Liberation War) was a cherished goal for us. Their courageous role, dedication to the nation and bold contribution without any interest yet inspire us with the glory of patriotism,” he said.
The Bashundhara Group chairman mentioned the present growth of the economy as a translation of the cherished dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“As a nation, Bangladesh has been moving forward overcoming many socio-economic challenges. The defence forces have a significant role in the progress of the country.”
Bashundhara Group has been supporting sports as a part of the economic development of the country, he added.
“We have footprints in different sectors of the economy. May Allah bless us as a prosperous nation within 2041 through achieving the goal of a trillion-dollar economy! The cherished dream ‘Sonar Bangla’ of Bangabandhu may soon be an inspiration for the future generation,” said Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.
On Thursday, the ABG Bashundhara Group Victory Day Golf Tournament-2023 was inaugurated through a colourful programme at Kurmitola Golf Club course in the capital.
