SACCJF Announces Bangladesh Chapter: Pledge to Work Together to Address Climate Change Challenges

Dhaka: June 28 : The Bangladesh chapter of the South Asian Climate Change Journalists Forum (SACCJF) has been announced. The forum was established to raise awareness about climate change challenges in South Asia, and its Bangladesh chapter was officially launched at a hotel in the capital, Dhaka, on Saturday.

Senior Indian journalist and SACCJF President Asish Gupta spoke virtually at the ‘Bangladesh Chapter Announcement’ event. The event was chaired by Asaduzzaman Shamrat, Executive President of the South Asian Climate Change Journalists Forum. SACCJF Secretary General Karamot Ullah Biplob conducted the event and announced the names of the chapters office bearers.

M. Masum Billah (Reporters 24) will serve as the president of the Bangladesh chapter of SACCJF, while Shamsuddin Illius, special correspondent for The Business Standard, has been appointed general secretary. Other office bearers include: Vice President Imrul Kayes (Bangla Vision), Joint Secretary Salauddin Ahmed Reza (Jamuna TV), Treasurer Zummatull Bida (Channel 24), and Executive Members Md. Abu Ali (Daily Amader Somoy), Md. Shafiul Al Imran (Daily Sangbad), Sheikh Shahrukh Farhan (The Daily Observer), Minakshi Chowdhury (BTV), Sajibur Rahman (The Financial Express), Imran Hossain (ATN News), and Mithun
Sarkar (Pratiner Bangladesh).

Certificates were presented to the leaders by SACCJF Executive President Asaduzzaman Shamrat and Secretary General Karamot Ullah Biplob. The newly appointed leaders presented their action plans and emphasized the need for a coordinated approach to address climate change challenges across South Asia, including Bangladesh.

The South Asian Climate Change Journalists Forum (SACCJF) was formed by South Asian journalists working on climate issues at the COP-27 conference held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, in 2022. The organization has already established chapters in India and Nepal and has initiated various programs to tackle climate change. A regional climate conference is scheduled to be held in Nepal next October under the organizations initiative.
