Dhaka 8 June 2024: To secure our children's future, it is critical to prioritize green initiatives and activities.
Experts have encouraged everyone to step forward. The Environment and Social Development Organization
(ESDO), in collaboration with Bangladesh Shishu Academy and Mutual Trust Bank PLC, organized an art
competition today, at Dada Bhai Hall of Bangladesh Shishu Academy to observe World Environment Day
2024.
World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5th, is the United Nations' flagship day for encouraging
global awareness and action for the environment. In 2024, the theme is "Land Restoration, Desertification, and
Drought Resilience." This theme highlights the urgent need to restore degraded land, combat desertification,
and enhance resilience to drought, which are critical issues affecting ecosystems and human communities
worldwide.
The Art Competition promised to be a vibrant display of talent, creativity, and a shared commitment to
environmental protection. It invited 300 young artists to express their perspectives on the importance of nature
conservation. A distinguished panel of judges evaluated the entries, ensuring fairness and expertise in the
selection process.
Anjir Liton, Director General of Bangladesh Shishu Academy, praised ESDO's initiative, stating, "By
organizing this art competition, ESDO is not only fostering creativity but also raising crucial awareness about
the severe environmental issues and its health impacts around the world, particularly the children.”
Chowdhury Akhter Asif, Additional Managing Director & Group Chief Risk Officer, Mutual Trust Bank PLC
said, “Today's children are tomorrow's leaders. If they grasp the importance of the environment now, they will
pave the way for its protection in the future.”
ESDO’s Secretary General, Dr. Shahriar Hossain said, “This art competition provides a unique opportunity for
children to express their commitment to nature conservation and bring attention to important environmental
issues.”
Siddika Sultana, Executive Director, ESDO said, “Art competition is an excellent platform for young artists to
showcase their creativity while bringing attention to pressing environmental and health issues. We hope to
spread environmental awareness among the children to ensure their greener future.”
