{"id":6756,"date":"2024-03-28T20:28:56","date_gmt":"2024-03-28T14:28:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/banglapratidin24.com\/?p=6756"},"modified":"2024-03-28T20:28:56","modified_gmt":"2024-03-28T14:28:56","slug":"bidi-workers-want-withdrawal-of-tax-in-rangpur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/banglapratidin24.com\/bidi-workers-want-withdrawal-of-tax-in-rangpur\/","title":{"rendered":"Bidi workers want withdrawal of tax in Rangpur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN\">Greater<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">\u00a0<\/span>Rangpur Bidi Workers Union on Thursday laid siege to the\u00a0Rangpur\u00a0to press home their Four demands, to reduce tariffs on bidis in the budget for the next 2024-25 fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>About thousands of\u00a0bidi workers gathered in front\u00a0Rangpur Collectorate Surovi Uddan\u00a0and staged demonstrations there in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Their demands are No tax on the bidis during Bangabandhu&#8217;s time, so should be no tax on bidis,\u00a0<span lang=\"EN\">withdrawal of advance income tax on bidis,\u00a0<\/span>stopping all of lowquality cigarettes at Multinational companies and increasing the wages of bidi workers.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the human chain, they presented a memorandum containing four-point demands to the\u00a0Prime Minister\u00a0through the Rangpur\u00a0Deputy\u00a0Commissioner.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the speakers said, \u201cMillions of workers including the helpless, disadvantaged, extremely poor, physically handicapped and widows make a living by working in the bidi sector.\u00a0\u00a0But the country&#8217;s ancient labor-intensive industry is being destroyed by the conspiracy of foreign multinational companies.<\/p>\n<p>Multinational companies were smuggling thousands of crores of rupees abroad by burning the lungs of the people of this country.\u00a0\u00a0Some corrupt local officials are taking advantage of foreign multinational companies and imposing excessive taxes on bidis.\u00a0\u00a0Bidi owners are being forced to close their factories as they cannot bear the burden of this exorbitant tax, they said<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the workers are living a dehumanized life.\u00a0\u00a0Besides, advance income tax on cigarettes is 3 percent and advance income tax on bidis is 10 percent.\u00a0\u00a0We want to repeal this discriminatory advance income tax.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome unscrupulous bureaucrats are conspiring to increase tariffs on bidis to give foreign cigarette companies a monopoly.\u00a0\u00a0Due to the increase in tariffs, unscrupulous traders are making fake bidis and marketing them to evade the tariff. The government is being deprived of huge amount of revenue.<\/p>\n<p>They also urged the customs authorities to take necessary steps to halt unlawful bidi manufacturers and counterfeit bidi.
