Staff Reporter Dhaka : A piece of news published recently in various national media on the Bhashantek Rehabilitation Project and Kalmilata Bazar has caught the attention of the Ministry of Land While conducting the daily news review. Of this, only the management of the Bhashantek Rehabilitation Project is under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Land. It would have been also appropriate to take the statement of the Ministry of Land before publishing the news, which was not conducted.

With the approval of appropriate authority, the Ministry of Land terminated the contract with the real estate company named North South Property Development Limited (NSPDL) mentioned in the above news on October 19, 2010 due to NSPDL’s gross irregularities and anti-public interest activities such as breach of contract conditions. Some violations of the terms of the contract include: charging more than the apartment’s fixed price by NSPDL, conducting apartments allotment to beneficiaries at the whim of NSPDL, collecting of utility charges at an excess rate, selling apartments at the own office by NSPDL instead of the bank and carrying out project related transactions including with security money, not completing the construction of one-third of the flats under construction, etc.

In addition, the Ministry of Land has been working systematically to implement the Bhashantek Rehabilitation Project. In the meantime, the Land Ministry has distributed flats among 576 beneficiary slum dwellers in 4 A-type buildings of the  Bhashantek Rehabilitation Project and distributed flats among 384 beneficiaries in 4 B-type buildings. In addition, a DPP is currently under process to construct a total of 1296 flats in 3 A type and 8 B type buildings.

The present government has ensured maximum facilities for the heroic freedom fighters by placing them in a position of rightful honor. Many steps have been taken for the welfare of the family members of the freedom fighters. Freedom fighters are the greatest children of the nation. The Ministry of Land considers that the media, which believes in best practice and professional journalism, always shows responsibility in publishing any news related to this.
