Dhaka, March 10, 2025, Press Release : The ‘Shabdhane Online-A’ campaign, a joint initiative of JAAGO Foundation and TikTok, has reached significant milestones in Bangladesh in promoting online safety and digital hygiene awareness among the youth in the country. With the active involvement of Youth Ambassadors from across the country, the campaign has now reached over 100,000 youths, educating them about the importance of online safety and responsible digital behavior.
Originally launched in 2022, the ‘Shabdhane Online-A’ campaign marked the beginning of its third phase in late 2024 with a Youth Ambassador Training Camp, where 128 Youth Ambassadors from 64 districts participated in a comprehensive residential training program. During this program, ambassadors were trained on online safety, TikTok’s safety tools, and their role as advocates for online safety. This initiative empowered the youth to spread awareness and become champions of digital safety in their communities.
Following the training camp, Youth Ambassadors conducted knowledge-sharing sessions in 64 districts across Bangladesh. Each session involved around 30 local youth, educating them on online threats, responsible digital practices, and cybersecurity measures. These sessions played a crucial role in expanding awareness about digital safety at the grassroots level, creating a network of informed youth advocates throughout the country.
One of the key activities of the campaign was the Youth Ambassador Campus Activation program, where ambassadors visited 256 educational campuses across the country. At these campuses, youth ambassadors conducted engaging workshops on online safety, reaching a total of 100,000 students. These campus activities empowered students to better understand the digital landscape and take proactive steps towards staying safe online.
Following the successful completion of the campus activations, Divisional Feedback Sessions were organised in 8 divisions across Bangladesh. During these sessions, Youth Ambassadors shared their experiences, success stories, challenges, and recommendations regarding the campus activation process. These feedback sessions allowed participants to reflect on the campaign’s impact, and provided valuable insights into how the campaign could be improved in the future.
The culmination of these efforts was the National Online Safety Dialogue, held in Dhaka, where key stakeholders such as government representatives, journalists, researchers, content creators, IT experts, and Youth Ambassadors came together to discuss the ‘Shabdhane Online-A’ campaign’s impact. The dialogue focused on addressing current online safety challenges, sharing recommendations for furthering digital safety awareness, and building a safer internet for Bangladesh’s youth.
“The ‘Shabdhane Online-A’ campaign is a testament to the fact that youth can lead the change in digital safety. Together, with the efforts of all stakeholders, we are working towards a safer internet for Bangladesh’s young generation”, said Mosaddek Hossain, Project Manager, ‘Shabdhane Online-A’ Campaign.
Along with the offline activities, JAAGO Foundation and TikTok have conducted a series of online awareness campaigns to engage the broader public. This includes press releases, static posts, opinion pieces, SBCC (Social and Behavioral Change Communication) content, and awareness posts across digital platforms. These efforts have played a vital role in educating the general population about online safety and cyber threats.
The ‘Shabdhane Online-A’ campaign has successfully empowered the youth of Bangladesh by equipping them with the knowledge and tools to navigate the digital space safely and responsibly. Through collaborative efforts from JAAGO Foundation, TikTok, and other stakeholders, Bangladesh is witnessing a shift towards a more digitally aware and safe society. This collaboration between JAAGO Foundation and TikTok not only helps protect today’s youth but also builds the foundation for a safer digital environment for future generations.
