Staff Reporter, Dhaka : Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, emphasized that Rabindra University must be developed into an exemplary educational institution that harmonizes with nature and protects the environment. She stressed
the justified need for a permanent campus for the university, stating, ‘There can be no disagreement about the necessity of a dedicated campus, but its construction must ensure environmental balance, protection of water bodies, and conservation of local biodiversity.’
The Adviser made these remarks as the chief guest at a civic gathering following her visit to the proposed site for the permanent campus of Rabindra University in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj today.
‘Set against the backdrop of Rabindranath Tagore’s literary philosophy and deep connection with nature, this university’s allocation will gradually increase,’ Rizwana Hasan said, ‘Instead of gazing at the sky in despair, we must look to the ground with hope.’ She added that Rabindra University should help elevate Sirajganjs profile across the country.
Among others, Dr. Kaiyum Ara Begum, Member (Secretary) of the Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division of the Planning Commission; Professor Dr. S.M. Hasan Talukder, Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra University; and Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suman Kanti Barua also spoke at the event. Notable attendees included Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Superintendent of Police Md. Farooq Hossain, Additional Chief Engineer (Civil) of Bangladesh Water Development Board, Rajshahi, Md. Mukhlesur Rahman, and Divisional Forest Officer of Bogura region Muhammad Subedar Islam.
It is noteworthy that the initiative to establish the permanent campus of Rabindra University is centered around the area near Rabindra Kuthibari in Shahjadpur. After the inspection, the advisor will submit a report to the Planning Commission.
Following the campus visit, Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan also inspected the progress of the strengthening work of Enayetpur Spur-2 along the Jamuna River in Chauhali Upazila of Sirajganj
district. She issued necessary directives to officials of the Bangladesh Water Development Board during her visit.
