Staff Reporter, Dhaka : Nine students have won ‘Top in the World’ awards from Cambridge Assessment International Education (Cambridge International) for their exceptional performance in the June 2022 Cambridge examination series. Students from schools across the country were recognised for their outstanding academic achievements at an awards ceremony at International Convention City, Bashundhara on 9 December 2022 which is jointly hosted by Cambridge International and the British Council, Bangladesh.

Cambridge International has conferred an impressive 90 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards on Bangladesh students. The global awards celebrate the highest performing students from over 40 countries in qualifications recognised around the world by leading universities and employers. Every year nearly a million students worldwide study courses organised by Cambridge International, which has been providing international exams for more than 160 years.

71 students in Bangladesh have received the prestigious Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for their exceptional performance in Cambridge exams in June 2022. The awards recognise success in four categories – ‘Top in the World’, ‘Top in Country’, High Achievement Award’ and ‘Best Across’. Nine students across Bangladesh have won ‘Top in the World’ awards, meaning that they achieved the highest mark in the world in a particular subject. Out of these 9 winners, 7 students have won the award for their outstanding performance in maths. The students have achieved the awards in a range of individual subjects across Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level and Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Architect Yeafesh Osman, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology as the Chief Guest and H.E. Robert Chatterton Dickson, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh as the Special Guest. Among others David Knox, Acting Director, British Council; Lee Davis, Director Teaching and Learning, Cambridge International; Zunayed Ahmed, Director, Exams Operations, British Council; and Shahin Reza, Country Manager, Cambridge International were also present in the event.

Architect Yeafesh Osman, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology said: “I would like to congratulate the awardees today on your outstanding achievements. This is a significant achievement. Your achievements in the Cambridge examination is the real testimony of your hard work and your ability to compete in the global level. Congratulations once again. I believe with your Cambridge qualifications some of you will go to the top universities in the world and in the future will be able to contribute to the global level. One thing I would like to remind you that we have got our independence at the cost of three million lives. So, you must not forget your obligation to your motherland. You should always be proud. Thanks to Cambridge and British Council for inviting me. Once again, congratulations to all the winners for your outstanding performance.

Robert Chatterton Dickson, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh said: It is a wonderful pleasure for me to be here on the stage at Cambridge International Education outstanding learners’ event. It is remarkable to see people here, winning best in the world awards. It shows the talent and the ambition that exists in Bangladesh. But of course, we also must congratulate the schools for teachers for their effort. This is an important part of the overall relationship between the UK and Bangladesh. There is a strong relationship across all sorts of fields, whether it’s education culture, economic trade relationship, historical relationships, and created by the fact that there are more than 600 thousand people in the UK thriving to contribute to our society there and I think education is really at the core. when you’re thinking about the next step in your journey through life and education, I very much hope that you will consider the UK because one of the things I’ve been most pleased about my years, as high commission, has been the doubling of student numbers, the numbers of Bangladeshi’s.
