MOU signed between BOU and Columbia University, NY

Staff Reporter Dhaka : A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Bangladesh Open University (BOU) and the Columbia University (CU), New York on 19 December 2022 for a three years term aimed at promoting research collaboration and running joint academic programs mainly in climate change issues.

The MOU will also cover the faculty exchange and developing training programmes between the two universities.

Eminent geologist and natural hazerd researcher and BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Syed Humayun Akhter and CU Provost Mary C. Boyce, Provost signed the agreement at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) of Columbia University in New York.

Ubder the MOU, two universities will be able to organize joint seminar, workshops, and conferences.

Speaking about the prospect of the MOU, BOU VC hopes that this MOU shall contribute to attain the SDG 13. The official mission statement of this goal is to “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts”. BOU shall employ its country-wide network in implementing formal and non-formal programs on climate change in association with the CU.

Prof. Akhter signed this agreement in his recent trip to USA for attending American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting 2022.
