‘Islamic Banking is related to the basic faith of Islam’ DU Vice Chancellor says at IBCF Seminar

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, `Islamic Banking is related to the basic faith of Islam’. To spread the Islamic Banking system in the society, we have to work with the spirit of human welfare. He said these while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled “Shariah Governance in Islamic Banking in Bangladesh: Practice and Reality” organized by the Islamic Banks Consultative Forum (IBCF) on March 23, 2025, Sunday at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka.

DU Vice Chancellor said that there is huge scope for research on Islamic Banking. A combination of theoretical and practical knowledge is needed for the development of this sector, he added. A vast knowledge-based campaign is needed to make the general public literate in Islamic Banking. Dhaka University wants to stand with Islamic Banking professionals in this campaign. The gathering of Islamic Banking stakeholders at the national level, initiated by IBCF, must be continued for the greater unity of the nation.

Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Chairman of IBCF & First Security Islami Bank PLC presided over the seminar. Mahbubur Rahman, President, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Abul Hasan Chowdhury, Former State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor of Islamic Arabic University, Professor Dr. Hasina Sheykh, Chairman, Department of Banking and Insurance, University of Dhaka addressed in the seminar. Mohammed Monirul Moula, Chairman, Task Committee of IBCF and Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC presented keynote paper. Mohammed Nurul Amin, Senior Vice Chairman, IBCF & Chairman, Global Islami Bank PLC, Khwaja Shahriah, Vice Chaiman, IBCF & Chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC, Md. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Advisor, IBCF and Chairman, Union Bank PLC, Obayed Ullah-Al Masud, Chairman, Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC addressed in the seminar. A K M Nurul Fazal Bulbul, Advisor of IBCF moderated the seminar while Professor Abu Naser Mohammad Abduz Zaher, Former Chairman of IBCF addressed the seminar. Directors and Managing Directors of various banks, senior bankers, academicians, Shariah experts and other dignitaries from the sector were present in the seminar.
