Young Doctors Nationwide Granted Opportunity to Participate in First MRCP PACES Examination Initiated by Evercare Hospital Dhaka
Staff Reporter, Dhaka : For the first time in Bangladesh, the MRCP PACES (Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills) exam was held at Evercare Hospital Dhaka. The exam began on October 22 and ended today (October 24, 2024) at Evercare Hospital Dhaka, the country’s first JCI-accredited hospital. A total of 45 young doctors from Bangladesh participated in this historic event.
The organization of the MRCP PACES exam marks a groundbreaking chapter for the country’s medical education system. Evercare Hospital Dhaka is the first institution in Bangladesh to host the MRCP PACES exam. Since 2012, Bangladeshi doctors have been taking the written portion (Part 1 & Part 2) of the MRCP exam locally. However, due to the lack of an appropriate center for the practical exam, candidates had to spend large amount of money to travel to countries like India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, or the UK. As a result, many qualified and talented doctors were unable to participate. With the full exam now being conducted in Bangladesh for the first time, there is widespread joy and excitement.
Federation of the Royal College of Physicians, UK, played a crucial role in organizing the internationally recognized exam for Bangladeshi medical professionals. Representatives from the Royal College of Physicians, UK including Dr. Stuart Hood, Chair, PACES Dhaka along with 4 others, were present to examine the students. Fifteen Bangladeshi senior physicians took part in the exam as examiners. From Bangladesh, the exam was conducted by Prof. Quazi Tarikul Islam, Federation Lead, Bangladesh, Royal Colleges of Physicians of UK. Also offering their full support from Evercare Hospitals Bangladesh were Dr. Ratnadeep Chaskar, CEO of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh; Dr. Arif Mahmud, Group Medical Director at Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh; and Mohammad Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, Deputy Director of Operations and Hospitality at Evercare Hospital Dhaka.
The establishment of the MRCP PACES exam center at Evercare Hospital Dhaka allows Bangladeshi doctors to take the exam within their own country, which will play an important role in enhancing the nation’s medical and healthcare education system. PACES MRCP exam will be held at Evercare Hospital Dhaka twice in a year.
