Dhaka, Bangladesh, 26 September 2024: BRAC Bank has completed a three-day eye-screening initiative for its non-executive co-workers at its head office, making eye care accessible to them.
The one-of-a-kind initiative in the corporate sector bears testimony to the bank’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a culture of inclusiveness at the workplace.
This is part of the bank’s flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative dedicated to health and styled ‘Aporajeyo Ami’.
The initiative uncovered a significant need for vision care, with 49% of the screened co-workers requiring corrective eyeglasses – including chauffeurs, security personnel, office assistants, and cleaning assistants.
The eye camp brings delights to the office staff, as they avail themselves of specialist eye consultations and receive glasses instantly free of cost.
In observance of World Eye-Sight Month in October, BRAC Bank arranged the eye-screening programme on September 21–23, 2024, with medical support from VisionSpring, a US-based social enterprise specializing in affordable eyeglasses.
A total of 335 co-workers were screened, out of which 127 received their first-ever pair of glasses, addressing issues like blurred vision and previously untreated headaches. Solutions were provided immediately by distributing eyeglasses on-site, ensuring workers could see them immediately.
Of the staff, 165 were found to need eyeglasses, and three individuals were referred for further treatment for more severe eye conditions.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, the Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank, Selim RF Hussain, stated: “Our non-executive co-workers are the backbone of our operations, and we are proud to invest in their well-being.”
“By addressing their vision needs, we are improving their quality of life and enhancing their confidence and productivity. This initiative is one of many ways we show our gratitude to those whose service is vital to the bank,” he added.
In 2024, BRAC Bank aims to screen the vision of 15,000 factory workers from its corporate and emerging corporate clients. As part of this initiative, the bank has already screened the vision of 410 workers at Master Fishing Net Industries Limited, one of its clients, providing free eyeglasses to 296 of them.
The ‘BRAC Bank Aporajeyo Ami initiative reflects the bank’s unwavering commitment to social welfare and dedication to building a more inclusive society with a motto of leaving no one behind.
As a values-driven organization, BRAC Bank continues to uphold CSR initiatives that break financial barriers and social taboos, creating opportunities and ensuring access for people to realize their potential and lead meaningful lives.
